RAYMOND, Wis. — Audrey Kostuch retains her seat and Ed Robinson will take his seat on the Raymond School Board.

Four candidates — incumbent Audrey Kostuch, Shelly Kurhajec, Dorrae Moonen, and Ed Robinson — ran to fill two seats. Kostuch was running for her second term on the board.

Amy Helvick chose not to run for re-election, leaving her seat completely up for grabs.

Raymond School Board vote totals

Raymond has 2,871 registered voters plus those who registered on Election Day, and 1,973 cast ballots for school board candidates, including absentee.

Village Clerk Barb Hill said voter traffic was steady all day though she thought it might have been busier.

“We didn’t have a lot of empty time,” she said. “And steady is good.”

In the end, here’s how the vote totals shook out:

Kostuch: 568
Kurhajec: 457
Moonen: 383
Robinson: 562

Issues facing the School Board

When they take their seats, Kostuch and Robinson will have to jump into the search for a full-time superintendent and a new principal; a potential financial crisis, the size of which remains largely unknown; delayed maintenance on the school building itself, including the school’s mechanical systems such as repairing or replacing the boiler; and helping heal a fractured community.

Kit and William Metzen voted shortly before the 8 p.m. deadline, and Kit said once the new board is seated, they need to get back to focusing on what’s best for the children.

“The kids are what’s most important and doing right by them,” Kit said. “I hope the adults can put aside all this other stuff and focus on the children.”
