MILWAUKEE — To celebrate Mother’s Day, the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce held its third Mommy & Me Pre-Mother’s Day Fitness Walk on May 11 at Veterans Park in Milwaukee.
This yearly event is an opportunity for participants to prioritize their health while celebrating motherhood, according to a press release from the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce.
Mommy & Me activities promote fitness
Experienced fitness instructors led attendees on either a one-mile walk or two-mile run to kick off the festivities. Workout stations were placed every quarter of a mile along the route of the fitness walk. The stations had exercises for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of fitness experience.
After the walk/run, participants were able to enjoy a range of post-walk activities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., including music and giveaways by Jammin 98.3 Radio Station, according to the press release.
Post-fitness walk activities included fitness classes, yoga, food vendors, health screening, wellness products and services and a chance to win prizes.
This year, a new feature was added. For an additional $5, participants could go on boat rides at the Milwaukee Community Sailing Center.
Registration was free for children and $10 for adults.
CEO of the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce Ruben Hopkins is quoted in the press release.
“The Mommy & Me Pre-Mother’s Day Fitness Walk is more than just a walk or run; it’s a celebration of health, family and community,” Hopkins said. “We are thrilled to bring this event back for its third year, offering families an opportunity to come together, get active and have fun.”
About the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce
Founded by Ruben Hopkins 13 years ago, the Wisconsin Black Chamber of Commerce aims to improve quality of life in Black communities throughout Wisconsin. They hope to achieve this by “making Black people the largest employers of Black people,” according to their website.
The press release reads, “Through advocacy, networking, and educational initiatives, the chamber aims to create opportunities for Black-owned businesses to thrive and succeed.”
The Mommy & Me event is just one of several regularly held events by the chamber. Events are currently scheduled through September, including 3rd Thursday Networking Events, Taste of Black Milwaukee and Start-Up Bootcamps. Read more about future events here.
