RACINE, WI — Information about an active warrant for the arrest of a 35-year-old Racine man led to a foot chase June 5 – and eventually, a new felony fentanyl-related charge.

Rico Williams remains in custody in the Racine County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond.

He’s charged with a felony count of possession with intent to deliver more than 50 grams of fentanyl that could lead to 40 years in prison and a $100,000 fine.

Williams also is charged with misdemeanor counts of obstructing an officer and possession of drug paraphernalia, both as a repeat-offender. He’s due back in Racine County Circuit Court on July 25, for an 8:30 a.m. status conference.

Fentanyl charge follows foot chase

According to the criminal complaint:

A Racine police officer on patrol in the area of 12th Street and Memorial Drive observed Williams as he walked on Memorial Drive. The officer learned there was an active felony warrant for Williams and attempted to make contact.

As Williams made eye contact, he allegedly immediately took off running down Memorial Drive, then into an empty lot on 12th Street. As the chase ensued, the officer stated that Williams discarded items while he ran.

The officer eventually caught up and took Williams into custody.

During a search of the area, the officer found a discarded bag and a smaller bag with multiple blue pills, later identified as Oxycodone, along with a crack pipe. The bigger bag contained 877 pills with a weight of 96.3 grams, while the smaller bag had 95 pills that weighed 10.9 grams, and both tested positive for fentanyl.

Criminal court records show that Williams has 10 previous criminal convictions, beginning in 2006 with a felony possession with intent to deliver cocaine conviction in Racine.
