BURLINGTON, WI — Mother Nature’s rain showers fell on the Schaal Dairy Farm last weekend, forcing cancellation of the 2024 Racine County Breakfast and disappointing many who eagerly anticipated a farm-fresh meal to start the day.

Among the disappointed were Brian and Renee Schaal — especially after all the work done at their Burlington farm to prepare. Fortunately, the Schaals are ready for a redo this Saturday, June 29, at the Racine County Fairgrounds in Union Grove.

Breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 a.m. in the Activity Building. Expect heaping plates of eggs, sausage, muffins, string cheese yogurt, ice cream with strawberries and a choice of juice, milk or coffee. On top of breakfast, this event features a petting zoo, face painting, crafts, educational activities and more.

(Did we say ice cream for breakfast? 🍨 Yes, yes we did!)

The event costs $10 (cash only) for anyone age 6 and older. Kids 5 and younger eat for free.

Renee Schaal said the decision to cancel the June 22 breakfast was in the best interest of everyone involved. The nighttime rains made the planned parking area unusable.

While the committee did their best to get word out via social media about canceling, Schaal said, a number of people still came to the farm on Saturday morning looking for breakfast.

“Everyone was so understanding,” she said about having to cancel. “That’s what farming is – it’s at the hands of Mother Nature.”

Organizers look forward to welcoming guests to the fairgrounds,19805 Durand Avenue, Union Grove, on Saturday for breakfast redo. Proceeds will fund scholarships for local students as well as next year’s breakfast.

Renee said after the first breakfast event nine years ago, the committee awarded a $500 scholarship.

“This year, we gave out five $500 scholarships,” she said.
