Brumby to compete in WBCA All-Star Game

Brumby, the co-Player of the Year in the Southeast Conference this past season, will compete on the Division 1 Red team Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association’s All-Star Games at the JustAGame Field House in Wisconsin Dells.

Jaramillo Opts Out of Division 4 All-Star Game

Another former Racine standout, The Prairie School’s Reese Jaramillo, was also selected to compete in the Division 4 game Wednesday but reportedly will not participate. Jaramillo is a preferred walk-on at UW-Madison and has commitments to that program.

Brumby’s Stellar High School Career

Brumby, a 6-foot-2 guard, shared Player of the Year honors in the SEC this past season with Indian Trail’s MJ Stackhouse. As a senior, he scored 423 points (15.7 per game), with 81 free throws, 10 3-pointers and 160 rebounds. For his career, Brumby, who was a first-team, All-SEC pick as a junior, scored 1,095 points (13.5 per game), with 179 free throws, 38 3-pointers and 502 rebounds.

Case won the SEC title in 2023-24 with a 13-1 record and advanced to the sectional semifinal, where it fell to eventual Division 1 state champion Marquette.

Division 1 Red Team Roster

Joining Brumby on the Division 1 Red squad are Aidan Konop (Sussex Hamilton), Brandon Tilley (Franklin), Camron Henderson (Madison East), Carson McCormick (Janesville Craig), Carter Combs (Stevens Point), Cooper Grams (Sussex Hamilton), Jackson Bertagnoli (Janesville Craig), Karter Seawright (Muskego), Stevie Clark (Oshkosh North) and Will Stuckey (Kettle Moraine). The Red squad will be coached by Matt Miota (Madison East) and Steve Maselter (Sun Prairie East).

All-Star Games Schedule

Action on the boys’ side of the all-star games begins with the Division 5 contest at 9 a.m., followed by Division 4 at 10:30, Division 3 at 12:30 p.m., Division 2 at 2 p.m. and Division 1 at 4 p.m.

The other Racine selection, Jaramillo, capped a stellar four-year high school career by helping the Hawks to the WIAA Division 4 State Tournament this past season.

Prairie fell in the semifinal, 67-49, to eventual state champion Laconia. Jaramillo had 12 points in that contest on the strength of three 3-pointers. The Hawks closed the year at 25-4 overall and 14-0 in the Metro Classic Conference.

As a senior, Jaramillo scored 454 points (16.2 per game), with 43 free throws, 51 3-pointers, 213 rebounds, 59 assists and 50 steals. In four years with the varsity, including the last three as a team captain, Jaramillo poured in 1,292 points (11.9 per game), with 105 free throws, 182 3-pointers, 631 rebounds, 182 assists and 152 steals.

Jaramillo Joins UW-Madison Women’s Basketball

Last week, Jaramillo officially joined the NCAA Division 1 UW-Madison women’s basketball program as a preferred walk-on. “Badger Nation, please help me welcome Wisconsinite Reese Jaramillo to our WBB family as a preferred walk-on,” Wisconsin coach Marisa Moseley said on UWBadgers.com. “A native of Racine, Reese comes from a long line of athletes, including her parents.

“Reese arrives to Madison following a record-setting season for the Prairie School, including a conference, regional and sectional championship, and where she finished as the third-leading scorer in school history with 1,292 points. I’m thrilled to welcome Reese to our program, and I’m confident she will enhance this special group!”

Jaramillo’s Athletic Heritage

Jaramillo’s father, Lee, played college baseball at UW-Milwaukee and in the Major Leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers and the New York Mets. Her mother, Abby, played collegiate basketball at New Mexico, followed by a career overseas in Finland, Portugal and Greece.

Division 4 South Team Roster

Also competing on the Division 4 South team are Abby Cole (Winnebago Lutheran Academy), Addison Yates (Brodhead), Aubrey McCarthy (Darlington), Belle Watters (Mineral Point), Braycee Nelson (Fennimore), Carly Drew (Westfield), Erin Knowles (Boscobel), Lindsey Schadewalt (New Glarus), Lindsey Nell (Winnebago Lutheran) and Saveea Freeland (Cambridge). The South squad will be coached by Brad Solberg (Darlington), Courtney Feller (Lancaster) and Kevin Parman (New Glarus).

All-Star Games Girls’ Schedule

Action on the girls’ side tips off with the Division 5 game at 9 a.m., followed by Division 4 at 10:30, Division 3 at 12:30 p.m., Division 2 at 2 p.m. and Division 1 at 4 p.m.

Attempts to reach both Brumby and Jaramillo for comment were unsuccessful.
