It’s a GREAT weekend to get out and do something in Racine County! You can get fit and be inspired with The Biggest Loser RunWalk, catch some local comedy, celebrate autumn or spend a day in the country (with homemade pies!) Come along with Real Racine.
An inspiring run. You can meet — and run — with three former contestants of The Biggest Loser TV show. Dan and Jackie Evans, a son-and-mother-team from Season 5; and Bobby Saleem from Season 15, will be in Racine for the third edition of The Biggest Loser RunWalk. The timed event race course runs along the Lake Michigan shoreline with a start and finish at North Beach, 100 Kewaunee St. A Health and Wellness Expo, The Biggest Loser Meet ‘n Greet and a 1-Mile Fun Run for kids starts at 11 a.m. Saturday at North Beach Park. The event’s half-marathon starts at 7:30 a.m. Sunday; the 5k starts at 8 a.m. Online registration is open through Thursday at www.biggestloserrunwalk.com Registrations will be available at $99 for the half-marathon and $45 for 5k during Saturday’s packet pick up if the events have not sold out. You’re welcome to drop by Saturday or Sunday and cheer on the runners!
Comedy on stage. Get ready for an evening of sketch comedy at Theatre Schmeatre. The Over our Head Players present short, original comedies – plus some of the area’s finest musicians starting Friday at the Sixth Street Theatre, 318 Sixth St. The show continues on Fridays and Saturday (except Friday, Oct. 3) through Oct. 11. Rochester invites you! A big “Day in the Country” is planned in the Village of Rochester on Saturday. The day starts with a timed 5k run at 8:30 a.m. at Case-Eagle Park to benefit the Rochester Historical Society. (Register at rochester5k.wix.com/rochester-5k). Then, stop by Main Street at 9 a.m. for an arts and crafts show, kid’s activities, music from the Sawdust Symphony, fresh produce, food vendors, a shrimp boil and a car show. Don’t miss the homemade pie contest and pie auction at the corner of Main and Front streets.
The cat’s meow. The cats rule at the Feline Groovy Cat Show at Fountain Hall, 8505 Durand Ave., Sturtevant. You’ll see judging of all breeds of cats plus household pets. There are also prizes for the best ’60s costume (pets and people) and the best ’60s decorated cage. Show hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Helping animals. The annual Lucypawlooza fund raiser for the Wisconsin Humane Society’s Racine campus is 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at McAuliffe’s Pub, 3700 Meacham Road. The bands include Fall Hazard, Reynaldo Jenkins and the Teardrops and The System Lights. Admission is just $5. Wristbands are $15 for beer, $10 for pizza or $20 for both.
Celebrating the season. The Eco-Justice Center presents the Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at 7133 Michna Road, Caledonia. You’ll see demonstrations of spinning, weaving, apple cider pressing, wood turning, green cleaning, paper making, pottery and bee keeping. Admission is $3 adults; $2 for kids.
