December is here and so is lots of Racine County family fun! This weekend is filled with parades (including Santa), shopping, music and a beautiful train. Come along with Real Racine!

Santa’s here! Santa Claus arrives in a big way in Union Grove on Thursday. “Christmas Comes to Union Grove” at 5:30 p.m. includes Santa’s arrival at Village Square Park, 10th and Main streets, via fire truck with treats for the kids. Be sure to stick around for the Community Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. Santa is back from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday during the 11th Annual Holiday Craft Fair at Union Grove Elementary School, 1745 Milldrum St. The free admission event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The last First Friday. The last First Friday of 2014 is 4 to 9 p.m. in Downtown Racine. It should be a great evening to stroll Main and Sixth streets for open houses, food and beverage specials. Carolers, The Salvation Army bell ringers and Santa will add a holiday touch. Visit www.racinefirstfridays.com

A holiday concert. Friday brings the Racine Symphony Orchestra (RSO) Holiday Pops concert “Music of the Holidays Past…and Future” to Festival Hall, 5 Fifth St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., the concert starts at 7 p.m. RSO is participating in the Orchestras Feeding America National Food Drive – please bring a non-perishable food donation for the Racine County Food Bank. Parade time. Racine County puts on parades! The 33rd Annual Burlington Christmas Parade starts at 6:30 p.m. Friday starting at Kane Street and Chandler Boulevard in Downtown Burlington. This year’s theme is “Most Loved Christmas Carols.” Santa’s chalet opens at 7:30 p.m. at Wehmhoff Park, 166 E. Jefferson St. On Saturday, it’s time for the Waterford Winter Wonderland Parade. It’s gets under way at 5:30 p.m. and runs from Milwaukee Street to the Waterford Public Library on River Street where Mr. and Mrs. Claus will help light the Christmas Tree. A family show. The Racine Theatre Guild’s presentation of “The Sound of Music” opens at 7 p.m. Friday at 2519 Northwestern Ave. This beloved musical is truly a family show for the Christmas season. Performances are weekends through Dec. 21. Call 262-633-4218 or visit www.racinetheatre.org or tickets and show times.

Don’t miss the train. A popular local tradition continues this year. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train arrives at 5:20 p.m. Sunday at the Sturtevant Amtrak Depot, 9900 Exploration Court. The spectacularly decorated train tours the U.S. and Canada to raise money for local food banks. There’s a free concert by recording artists Home Free and Kira Isabella. Food and cash donations for the Racine County Food Bank are welcomed.
