The Racine Children’s Theatre (RCT) invites kids of all ages to join in affordable fun all year long, beginning with Disney’s “Aladdin, Jr.” Friday, October 5 through Sunday, October 7. Fun-filled and imaginative plays and musicals, affectionately known as Packy Plays, introduce children to the magic of theater.

Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes.

Wanting to earn the respect of the Princess Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character. With expanded characters, new songs, and more thrills, this new adaptation of the beloved story will open up “a whole new world” for young audiences.

“Aladdin, Jr.” will be presented by Union Grove High School’s Performing Arts Department. Sponsored by SC Johnson, Packy, the RCT elephant mascot, will greet the audience at the performance. Afterwards, children have the chance to meet the cast and get pictures and autographs. Just over an hour in length, these shows are great ways to make new memories.

Performances take place on Friday, October 5 at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 at 12, 2, and 4 p.m. Season tickets are available for $18 and individual tickets are just $6 each for children and adults with general seating for each performance.

The Elves and the Shoemaker: The Musical – November 9 – 11, 2018

Lockhart Cobblestone, the shoemaker, has a kind heart but little money in his pocket. Moved by the plight of an old beggar woman, he gives her his last pair of shoes. Poor Lockhart only has enough leather to make one more pair of shoes and sets it out to work on the next morning. Then, the fun begins!

Out pop five weird, endearing little elves who whip up the most fantastic and magical shoes the town of Clankbottom has ever seen. This musical retelling of an old favorite is filled with delightful characters and also holds a gentle message about the nature of kindness.

 Junie B. Jones: The Musical – February 1 – 3, 2019

It’s Junie B.’s first day of first grade, and a lot of things have changed for her: Junie’s friend, Lucille, doesn’t want to be her best pal anymore and, on the bus, Junie B. makes friends with the new kid at school. Also, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard and her teacher thinks she may need glasses.

Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, a kickball tournament and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,” and first grade has never been more exciting. Featuring a tremendously loveable character and fun-filled songs this show will capture hearts just as the books captivated an entire generation!

The Emperor’s New Clothes: The Musical – March 15 – 17, 2019

Laugh your socks off in this fairy-tale pop musical with eclectic styles ranging from 50s rock to 20s jazz to Celtic and more! The kingdom of Glump has been falling apart ever since the pampered emperor became wrapped up in his tasteless wardrobe.

Enter two con artists, Wart and Hog, who devise their ingenious plan for swindling the emperor into wearing a new kind of cloth, only visible to those worthy enough. Naturally, everyone pretends to ’see’ the magic cloth, until a young child’s honesty forces the emperor to face the truth about himself and his clothing!

Since 1933, the Racine Children’s Theatre (RCT) has been introducing young people to the magic of live theatre. The plays and musicals, affectionately known as Packy Plays, are filled with action, humor, audience participation, imaginative story-lines, and catchy tunes to keep kids interested and involved.
