The Wisconsin Department of Health Services announced the winners of the 2024 BigShot Awards this week. More than 200 providers were listed as having met the qualifications to be named in the list of award winners.

The Wisconsin BigShot Award is an annual recognition that celebrates Vaccines for Children Program providers. These dedicated providers are leading the way in protecting children’s health. Ensuring pediatric patients are up-to-date on their vaccinations is crucial for both individual and community health.

“We commend the dedication of our health care providers in safeguarding the health of children across Wisconsin,” said Paula Tran, State Health Officer. “Childhood vaccination rates declined sharply during the COVID-19 pandemic, and these health care providers have taken the charge to get us back on track. By prioritizing childhood immunizations and regular well-visits, we can effectively curb the resurgence of vaccine-preventable illnesses.”

There are four categories of awards:

  • Providers who have 90% or more of their patients vaccinated according to the recommended 4:3:1:3:3:1:4 schedule for 24-36 month-olds1.
  • Providers who have 90% or more of their patients who have at least 1 dose of Hepatitis A vaccine by 24 months of age.
  • Providers who have 80% or more of their adolescent patients between 13-17 years-old up to date on Tdap, Meningococcal, and have completed the HPV series.
  • Providers who have 95% or more of their patients who have at least 1 dose of MMR vaccine by 24 months of age.
