MOUNT PLEASANT — Robert J. Botsch has been appointed as the Village of Mount Pleasant’s new Police Chief, according to a May 23 press release. His first official day in this new position will be June 24.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chief Botsch to the Village of Mount Pleasant,” Police and Fire Commission Chair Jim Ivanoski said in the press release. “His extensive experience in law enforcement makes him the ideal leader for our police department.”

The press release details the capacities in which Botsch has served before earning the title of Mount Pleasant Police Chief.

Botsch earned a bachelor’s in criminal justice administration from Mount Senario College and a master’s in human services administration from Springfield College.

He then held positions at the Fox Point, Cudahy and Milwaukee Police Departments. After this, he spent 22 years working in the FBI’s Milwaukee Division. He has held a senior leadership role for the last eight years there.

This clocks Botsch at three decades’ worth of experience in law enforcement at the municipal and federal levels.

“We are confident that he will uphold the high standards and reputation of the department while working diligently to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents,” Ivanoski said.

Following former Police Chief Matthew Soens’ retirement on May 10, Botsch has assumed the role, but a swearing-in ceremony has yet to be scheduled, according to the press release.
