Drivers who have been taking detours to get on I-94 heading south instead of the Highway 20 on-ramp can once again use that entrance.

The state Department of Transportation listed on their I-94 Project website that the southbound (east) on-ramp will re-open at 5 a.m. Monday.

Temporary overnight closures are scheduled this week as well for both north- and southbound ramps in Racine County:

  • Northbound entrance ramp will close from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday
  • Northbound entrance ramp will close from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday
  • Northbound entrance ramp from Highway 11 will close from 8 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday
  • Southbound ramp to Highway 20 will close from 8 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday

The southbound lanes at Highway 20 have been diverted since March to the northbound overpass while the south overpass was taken down for total reconstruction. The same work was down on the northbound lanes last year.

The southbound laneThe Highway 20 interchange project costs $23 million and is one of 17 that will be addressed during the multi-year, $1.7 billion expansion of I-94 from downtown Milwaukee to the Wisconsin-Illinois border.
