Racine police say a 29-year-old Racine man is facing attempted murder charges after he stabbed his uncle 17 times in the back with a screwdriver.
Edward Cade was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with a single count of 1st degree attempted intentional homicide, use of a dangerous weapon. If convicted, he could face up to 60 years in jail.
According to the criminal complaint, officers were called at 1:40 a.m. July 1 to a residence in the 1600 block of State Street for a report of a stabbing. When police arrived, they found a man lying on his stomach on the floor of the garage. He was awake and speaking, but when officers asked what happened, at first he wouldn’t answer.
Later at the hospital, though, police say the man told them he’d been playing cards with the defendant and other friends. The man got into an argument with Cade when Cade picked up a screwdriver and stabbed him several times puncturing his right lung.
Investigators determined the man had been stabbed 17 times in the back and that he was not advancing on the defendant, the complaint reads.
Cade remains in the Racine County Jail on a $75,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 31.
There is no word on how the victim was doing as of the time this story was posted.
