The Racine-Kenosha area is blessed with a vibrant arts community. You can get up-close-and-personal with artists and their art this weekend. You’ll also find a symphony performance, fund-raisers and more – all in Racine County.
A weekend of art. Two days, more than 90 artists in 48 studios. The 2015 get bEHIND the aRTS Studio Tour takes visitors to a rare behind-the-scenes look at Racine and Kenosha area artists. The event kicks off with a free preview party from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at 427 Main Street in Downtown Racine. You can meet many artists and pick up an admission button (just $5) and a tour map. There are also performances, art demonstrations, raffle prizes, food and a cash bar. On Saturday, the Racine artists’ studios will be open. Kenosha artists will welcome visitors on Sunday. Young musicians. The Racine Symphony Orchestra wraps up its Masterworks concert season with “A Composition in Time” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Racine Theatre Guild stage, 2519 Northwestern Ave. Special guest is violinist Alexander Zhu, winner of the 2015 Young Artists’ Competition. Also performing are area students as part of the Side by Side Invitational. Tickets are $23 in advance; $25 at the door. Students ages 20 and younger are admitted free. Running and walking. Dusk ‘til Dawn is the theme for an overnight run/walk benefiting the Women’s Resource Center. The event runs from 4 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday at the Razor Sharp Fitness indoor track, 7300 Washington Ave. This run/walk is planned to raise awareness of domestic violence and raise funds for WRC. There are special time slots, including a candlelight vital walk at midnight Friday. Registration is $15 per person. Details at www.wrcracine.org
Hoppin’ away. The Bunny Hop 5K Walk/Run is healthy exercise for the family and a fund-raiser for St. John’s Lutheran School. This timed race gets under way at 9 a.m. at North Beach, 100 Kewaunee St. All participants will receive a Bunny Hop t-shirt. Kids under the age of 12 will receive their own medal and find eggs filled with goodies along the way. Registration ($20 for adults; $15 for kids ages 14 and younger) includes a goody bag, refreshments and music. Strollers are allowed at this event. In the orchard. It’s getting to be apple blossom time! You can take a free tour at Apple Holler, the state’s fifth largest orchard, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The orchard and farm is at 5006 S. Sylvania Ave., Yorkville. Visit www.appleholler.com
