Racine police say a 20-year-old man is behind bars after attempting to rob someone at gunpoint and keeping that person’s phone when it fell as the victim fled the scene.
Tyler Lynch, of Racine, remains in the Racine County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond. He was charged Friday in
Racine County Circuit Court with one felony count each of armed robbery with threat of force and marijuana possession. If convicted, he faces up to 43-1/2 years in prison and/or up to $110,000 in fines.
According to the criminal complaint, a man called police after Lynch approached him Dec. 2 on Charles Street while the man walked south from the 1600 block. The man told officers another man – later identified as Lynch displayed a .45 caliber handgun and told the man to give him everything the man had on him. Instead of complying, though, the man pushed Lynch away and fled the scene. Lynch did not follow and was described as a white male with a tattoo on the front of his neck, wearing jeans, a black hoodie and blue shoes.
Police say the man dropped his iPhone while he fled and used the “Find my iPhone” app to locate his phone. When officers responded to that address, they arrested Lynch and later executed a search warrant there as well. During their search of the premises, police discovered almost 35 grams of marijuana hidden in a slow cooker on top of the refrigerator, another four grams in a bedroom, a paintball gun that looked like a real gun, two digital scales and Lynch’s cell phone, which contained text messages indicating his active drug sales.
As a condition of his arrest on felony charges, Lynch was ordered to provide a sample of his DNA and to be placed on GPS monitoring if he posts bail. Lynch will next be in court Dec. 9 for his preliminary hearing.
