Caledonia Police were on scene and children were being kept in their classrooms at North Park Elementary School, 4748 Elizabeth St., after a child was out of control at 3:20 p.m., said Lt. Gary Larsen, of the Caledonia Police Department.
By 4:30 p.m., some buses were leaving the school, but police were still on scene, but a parent told the Racine County Eye that students who walk home were let out early.
The parent, who did not want to be named, said her son was kept from leaving his classroom for about 15 to 20 minutes.
However, Racine Unified School District spokesperson Stacy Tapp said the school was not on lock down, which implies that students and staff were not free to come and go from the school.
“Children were being kept in their classrooms so that they were kept out of the hall ways,” Larsen said, adding that he didn’t have a lot of information on the incident.
Larsen said the typical protocol the school would use in this case would be to keep the other children away from the other child.
“But without being there, I can’t say a while lot,” Larsen said.
