Mount Pleasant Police are investigating a car theft ring after the suspect or suspects broke into three car dealerships since July 4.

All three break-ins are believed to be connected. Two Ford Escapes were taken from Porcara Ford, 5910 Washington Ave., on July 4. The suspects also broke into Palmen Chrysler, 8320 Washington Ave. and Racine Toyota, 13350 Kilbourn Dr. sometime between 1:44 and 3:10  a.m. Thursday, according to a press release by the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

The thieves smashed a glass door to a showroom, then tried to take a Jeep Cherokee by trying to drive through a glass showroom wall repeatedly from Palmen Chrysler. Unsuccessful, the thief abandoned the plan and left the Jeep running as it was jammed up against the wall with half of it sticking out of the building. The suspect or suspects then tried to take another car off the showroom floor, but that didn’t work either.

After failing to steal those two vehicles, the suspects went to Racine Toyota, broke into the service department, and drove a car through a garage door. That car was abandoned on the dealership lot.

Mount Pleasant Police are still investigating the incidents to determine if other cars were taken from the dealerships.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Mt. Pleasant Police Department at 884-0454 option #4 or Crime Stoppers at (262) 636-9330, via e-mail through the website www.racine.crimestoppersweb.com, or by sending a text message to CRIMES (274637) and typing in TIP417 with your text message.
