Clayton A MeierSurrounded by his loving family, Clayton A. Meier, 90, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at his residence. Clayton was born in Racine, Aug. 31, 1925, son of the late Arthur and Nellie (Nee: Hanson) Meier.

Clayton was a graduate of William Horlick High School “Class of 1943”. He proudly served with the 95th Infantry Division of Patton’s 3rd army during World War II. Clayton was severely wounded in action on Nov. 15, 1944 near Metz, France, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. He received a degree in accounting from Spencerian College of Milwaukee, graduating in 1948, and served as president of his graduating class.

On June 24, 1950 at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church he was united in marriage to Patricia M. Hansen who preceded him in death, May 27, 2013.  Clayton worked in the public accounting field and a local metal fabricating company until 1972 when he purchased the Racine Boiler and Tank Company, now Metalworld Inc., which he operated until his retirement in 1995. He was a faithful and active member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church and St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. He was also a member of the Somerset Club and Racine Country Club.

Clayton actively served the Racine community on numerous boards including: The Racine Community Foundation, Boy Scouts, St. Mary’s Medical Center, Johnson Bank, St. Catherine’s High School, and Milwaukee Archdiocese School Board. More than anything he cherished time with his family on summer Sunday’s and holidays at Blue Spring Lake and dining most Friday evenings with family at the Racine Country Club. He will forever be remembered for his love of playing golf for speed and not score.

Survivors include his children, Thomas (Diana) Meier, Alan (Nancy) Meier, Robert (Silvia) Meier, Gary (Patti) Meier, Mark (Michele) Meier, James Meier; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his identical twin brother, Lloyd (Fran) Meier; sister, Laverne Poplawski; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Pat Meier, Marian (Richard) Beyer, Jeanne Wishau, Phyllis Wishau, Charles “Jerry” (Gerry) Hansen, Margie Tyle; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Meier.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6400 Spring Street with Rev. Terrance J. Huebner officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Garden Mausoleum, Hwy 32. Relatives and friends may meet with the family Saturday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass. Memorials to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or St. Catherine’s High School have been suggested.
