Two Caledonia teens were charged by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office with reckless driving and drug possession after police found about a pound of marijuana in their car.
Emily Carriveau, 18, of Caledonia, and Adan Martinez, 19, of Caledonia, were both charged with manufacturing and delivering marijuana – party to a crime. If convicted of the crimes, they both face up to six years 30 days in prison and/or fined up to $10,500.
According to the criminal complaint, Caledonia Police responded to a call of a report of a reckless driver on highways 31 and 38 on Sunday. The officer caught up with the car in the parking lot at a Speedway gas station. Martinez, who was the passenger, threw a marijuana joint out the window in front of the officer.
He handcuffed Carriveau and Martinez  while they searched the car. Inside a backpack, police found a vacuum-sealed bag that was about the size of a grocery bag filled with marijuana, a glass jar filled with marijuana, a scale, Cigarillo wrappers, and an open bottle of tequilla. They also found two cell phones, one belonging to Carriveau and one belonging to Martinez.
In total, 439.1 grams of marijuana were found inside the car.
A cash bond of $10,000 was set for Carriveau and Martinez. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. June 14 in front of Racine County Court Commissioner John Bjelajac.
