Dennis Cannady, one of the kindest men we had the privilege of knowing, left this earth on September 6, 2017, one day after his 71st birthday. Respecting his belief system, destination uncertain. A brilliant shooting star, known to all as “Den Den”, suddenly burned out. His enormously generous heart stopped beating and he evaded the final stages of brain cancer.

Last Friday in a phone conversation he is quoted as saying, “I thought I was going down this afternoon, so I want to say goodbye.”  Then with a typical Den Den style quip to diffuse the bomb of the moment he said, “I’ll send you a post card from hell!”  That’s our boy!

He will live forever in the hearts of all the people whose lives he touched. We will always remember his total irreverence for anything conventional, wicked humor, many talents, extreme loyalty and most of all, the deep kindness in his soul.

Rest in peace dear friend, wherever you landed they are lucky.  Meeters and greeters, fasten your seatbelts. As Dennis said, “I’ll call you when I get there, perhaps collect.”

A celebration of Dennis’s life will be held on Sunday, October 1 from noon until 4 p.m. at the Colerget Center, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Story sharing will begin at 2 p.m.

No flowers please.  Donations may be made to St. Monica’s Senior Living, the Racine Art Museum, or the Racine Community Foundation.
