An 18-year-old Racine man faces a felony charge of false imprisonment after an incident Thursday.
The felony filed by the Racine County District Attorney’s Office on Friday in Racine County Circuit Court against Eric Mateo could bring a fine of $10,000 and six years in prison.
Mateo, who made his initial court appearance Friday, also is charged with a misdemeanor count of criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct.
The misdemeanors carry a total fine of $11,000 and a year in the county jail. Mateo was released on a $2,000 cash bond.
According to the criminal complaint:
Officers with the Racine Police Department spoke to a woman, who stated she went to the defendant’s residence, when he started to question the way she was dressed and why she needed to wear makeup. The defendant demanded the woman’s phone, and when he couldn’t unlock it, he threw it against the wall.
The woman told Mateo she wanted to leave, but he grabbed her arm and prevented her from leaving. He eventually threw her on the bed, which caused her knee to hit the wall. He also struck the woman with a shoe before he gave her back her car keys and let her leave.
A preliminary hearing has been set for 9 a.m. July 12 at the Racine County Courthouse.
