The Racine Police Department, which is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened early Saturday morning in Mount Pleasant, has released the name of the man who was shot.

Tyrese West, 18, of Racine was shot by an officer with the Mount Pleasant Police Department at 1:35 a.m. Saturday in the 2500 block of Racine Street.

The Racine Police Department conducted an investigation and issued a press release Saturday night.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the MPPD officer involved attempted to make contact with an individual on a bicycle when this individual fled. Following a short foot pursuit, the officer observed that the individual was armed,” the press release reads.

The officer used “less-lethal efforts” to de-escalate the situation, but they were “unsuccessful” and ignored.

“Lethal force was subsequently used to address the threat of the uncooperative individual. Life saving measures were rendered; however, such measures were unsuccessful,” the complaint reads.

Officials with the Racine Police Department and State Division of Criminal Investigation continue to investigate the shooting. No other information is being released at this time.
