Obituary for Betty Ruth Smith

March 31, 1924 – April 27, 2023

Betty Ruth Smith was born in Beloit, Wis. on March 31, 1924, to Martin and Alice (nee: Hayward) Damman. On May 6, 1943, she was united in marriage to George W. Smith. Betty and George were married for over 78 years until he passed away on Sept. 1, 2021.

Betty was employed by Rudy’s Shop Rite for 40 years, and was affectionately known as the “brownie maker.” She was a worthy matron of Union Grove Chapter 71 Order of Eastern Star, held offices at Franksville United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Gideons Auxiliary. Betty cherished her family and all the happy times together. She enjoyed traveling abroad with George and her daughters.

Betty is survived by her son, George Jr.; daughters, Linda (Robert) Weber, and Virginia (Christopher) Smith-Hooser; grandchildren, Ryan, Kelly, Nicholas, Matthew, and Richard; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Mya, Kylee, Benny, Cora, Ari, Gideon, Ronan, and Kai; great-great-granddaughter, Milani; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; and of course, her pet therapist cat, Mulva.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents; brothers, Martin and Donald; and sisters-in-law, Margie and Mattie.

Services

Services for Betty Ruth Smith will be held in Faithbridge Church, 10402 Northwestern Ave., Franksville, on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at 10 a.m. Her family will have a private visitation at church before the service. Private burial will be at West Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Betty’s family suggests memorials be given to Faithbridge Church – Franksville.
