MOUNT PLEASANT — The Mount Pleasant Police Department’s Officer Jared Smetana has a new partner on the force. K9 Grizzly, the newest addition to the K9 unit, turns two years old on Wednesday, May 1.

K9 Grizzly was born in Hungary and moved to Holland for his career training as a Police Working Dog. After nearly two years of training, Grizzly relocated to the U.S. to begin his professional career.

Officer Smetana was introduced to Grizzly in February 2024 with a hug, according to a press release from the Mount Pleasant Police Department. The pair underwent a six-week training program at Shallow Creek Kennels in Sharpsville, Pa, where they were certified as an official K9 Team.
