RACINE, Wis. — Sherika Brown, a Racine resident, faces numerous criminal charges following accusations of brandishing a gun during a quarrel over financial matters.

The encounter, which occurred shortly after midnight on May 1, 2024, at a residence on Harmony Drive, escalated quickly, leading to Brown’s arrest on multiple counts, including possession of a firearm by a felon and disorderly conduct using a dangerous weapon.

If convicted, Brown faces severe legal consequences. The firearm possession by a felon charge alone carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine. The pointing of a firearm at another and disorderly conduct charges could add up to a year and a half of additional imprisonment and $11,000 in fines. Charges for resisting and obstructing an officer could result in up to 18 months in jail and $20,000 in fines, and cocaine possession could add another year in prison and a $5,000 fine.

If convicted on all counts, Brown could face over 12 years in prison and fines exceeding $60,000, highlighting the seriousness of the charges and the potential repercussions of her actions.

The criminal complaint: Threats made while brandishing gun

According to the criminal complaint from the Racine County District Attorney’s Office, a woman who called herself Shakyra Williams allegedly entered the home uninvited, confronting the resident over a small debt related to a prior outing. Witnesses claim Brown was adamant about retrieving $45 she had loaned the man for drinks days earlier, with threats escalating to physical intimidation as she brandished a Glock 26 handgun.

The situation intensified as Brown pointed the gun at the man while demanding repayment, even poking him in the chest with her free hand and threatening his life in front of multiple witnesses, including his wife and mother. The altercation prompted the man’s wife to intervene verbally, leading Brown to set down the gun and adopt a combative stance momentarily. However, she eventually sat back down, reiterating her demand for the money.

Police were called to the scene, where they found Brown still agitated and the gun temporarily unattended on a kitchen table. Attempts to de-escalate the situation were met with resistance; Brown argued vehemently with officers and physically resisted as they tried to secure her in a transport vehicle. The confrontation reached a peak when officers were forced to deploy oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray as Brown attempted to escape from the transport wagon, a measure that proved ineffectual.

During the arrest process, a small bag containing a white powdery substance fell from Brown, who later tested positive for cocaine. The incident led to an additional charge of cocaine possession.

When Brown appeared in court, officials noted that Brown had used a fake alias to identify herself. She is being held at the Racine County Jail on a $2,500 cash bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. on May 9 at the Racine County Courthouse.

  1. Low bond for pointing a gun at an individual with possible intent of harm. Glad it wasn’t a signature bond.
