Obituary for Leo M. Smith

November 24, 1946 — April 27, 2024

Leo M. Smith, 77, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Aurora Medical Center-Kenosha Campus.

He was born in Pennsylvania on Nov. 24, 1946, to the late John E. and Ruth (née Deal) Smith.

Leo was a 1964 graduate of Moniteau High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in 1968.

He enjoyed visiting family, playing cribbage and Bingo and throwing horseshoes.

He is survived by his daughters, Jodie Barrios and Joyce Maranger; grandchildren, Ryan, Stephanie, and Kayla Dibble, Emily (Jack) Jorgenson, Abbygail Maranger and Kaitlyn Maranger; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Shirley Keefer, Ellen Fleeger, Leona (Don) Pupak and Norma (Bob) Hovorka; former wife, Carol Smith; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Leo is preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Services

A memorial service for Leo will be held at 6 p.m. on May 6 at Purath-Strand Funeral Home. Full military honors will follow. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 4 p.m. until the time of service.

Memorials to a veteran’s organization of your choosing have been suggested.

Leo’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha for the care and compassion shown to him.
