Obituary for Wendell Bowen

September 25, 1952 — May 5, 2024

Wendell Bowen, resident of Racine, 71, passed away at his residence on Sunday, May 5, 2024. He was born in Starkville, Miss., on Sept. 25, 1952, the son of Edward Bowen and Jewel Ernestine (née Halfacre) Collier.

Wendell was united in marriage to Cynthia A.Turner on April 12, 1975, in Chicago, Ill.

Wendell was a graduate of Washington Park High School, “Class of 1973.”

He was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church and was a former member of Trinity United Missionary Baptist Church both of Racine and a 40-year member of JMBA. Wendell was a long-standing and faithful employee of Johnson Wax, serving over 40 years.

He found great enjoyment in fishing, working around the house, gardening, outdoors, carpentry and helping at church. He was a Master Chef, cooking for the family and church, along with feeding those in need of a well-cooked meal.

Wendell is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cynthia; son, Vincent Earl (Crystal Whiteside) Bowen; brothers, Rickey (Marsha) Collier, Ollie L. Collier; sister, Tuwonia Collier; sisters-in-law, Theresa Bahrs and Themoia Bowen. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends, in Racine and Mississippi.

Wendell was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl Bowen, David Collier; sister, Joyce (Thomas Price) Collier; brother-in-law, Richard Bahrs; and his parents.

Services

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on May 13 at Sturino Funeral Home with visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Wendell in a special way may direct memorials to The National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin.

The Bowen family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Davita Harbor View Dialysis for their kind and considerate passion.
