Driving east and west on Highway 20 at I-94 will require a detour; the roadway is closing down completely overnight Saturday so the southbound overpass can come down.

Highway 20 will close at 9 p.m. and reopen at 8 a.m. Sunday.

“The demolition will require overnight full closure of WIS 20 under I-94. WIS 20 under I-94 is scheduled to close overnight from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m.,” the alert from the Department of Transportation reads.

Drivers should use Highway C, 58th Road and the frontage roads in either direction to get around the closure.

Traffic in both directions will be diverted to the northbound lanes for the remainder of the southbound overpass project, which is expected to last into the fall.

The Highway 20 interchange project costs $23 million and is one of 17 that will be addressed during the multi-year, $1.7 billion expansion of I-94 from downtown Milwaukee to the Wisconsin-Illinois border.
